Back to school: Going for a second diploma
Hi guys, in today’s blog I tell a little bit more about my decision to go for a second diploma.
College
After high school, I went to a College. In studied Communications Management for three years. In these years I did learn a lot, and we had so many opportunities. I organised an Event with three other students; I filmed a viral video, I was social media reporter on a festival,… During these years I learnt a lot about myself and about what I like to do.
I discovered that I like working with photoshop, like to edit video’s, … That’s why I searched for another school to go to after College. First, I really wanted to study Graphic Design, but it was another four years which I thought was too long. So I searched some more and eventually, I found the right school with the right subject that I wanted to study.
University
I’m going to an art University to get my Master in Interaction Design. I’ll have courses like video, graphic design, app development, photography, … All the good stuff that I love to do. I’ll have to study here for two more years and eventually I’ll graduate as a Master student. To enter this school, I had to enter a qualification test in June. I passed this test so now I can start in September at a new school.
Reason
After I graduated from Communications Management, it just felt right to study more and not to go working yet. It felt like I wasn’t ready to go to work yet. I really loved studying Communications, but at the end of my 3rd year, it felt like I didn’t learn what I wanted. I felt like something was missing, so I searched for the missing piece. I think I found it.
Doubt
If you have to decide between going to school or going to work, I suggest writing down what you learned and what you would love to learn. If you feel satisfied when you graduate, I definitely suggest going to work. In my opinion, you have to work your whole life. Waiting a little bit longer to start working and taking that time to discover who you are, what you like, learning more or even exploring the world is a great decision.
Before you decide to not go to work, discuss it with your parents because they have to be okay with you going to school some more. In my case, my mother said from day one going to college that I should go for a master after college and my dad just supports me in every decision that I make. I am very grateful for the opportunities I have and to be able to go to college and university now because I know that there are a lot of people out there who can’t go to college.
